This is a recreation of the famous Beggar’s Canyon of Tatooine. It is a Single Player adventure designed to mimic Luke Skywalker’s rescue of R2D2 from the Sand People, as it is seen in SW: Episode IV: A New Hope.
Beggar’s Canyon is, to this day, one of the most complex and revolutionary designs made for the Jedi Knight engine. It uses the upgrades to the engine included in the expansion “Mysteries of the Sith”, which introduced colored lighting, among other features.
Beggar’s Canyon used a very careful and thought-out approach to the architectural limitations of the JK engine (it does not use Brushes, or positive spaces, but “sectors”—negative spaces—in order to simulate a world of solid materials). Consequently, I was able to make one of the most detailed and awe-inspiring designs for JK at the time.
This work left many people wondering how was it possible to design such a world using the rather limited, although revolutionary, JK engine--it was designed, in contrast to the Quake engine, to display very large levels but sacrificing detail in return. Beggar's Canyon manages to harmonize great detail with vast environments at near perfect economy of poligons for optimal performance.
