This work was my second design for Jedi Knight. I used a third party editor (JED Level Editor) Shadow’s Keep was a very popular death-match design. At the time, it was the largest design work by a member of the JK community.
I managed to re-create a castle, with large outdoor and indoor areas, despite the futuristic orientation of the original game. Also, the intricacy of the design was very revolutionary for JK standards, especially considering that it kept the same performance found in the much less complex designs from the original game.
Despite small asymmetries in the flow of this level, it is the most symmetrical layout I have created. As with my other works, it retains a lot of vertical game-flow.
These features match nicely with the atmosphere of an ancient and regal structure, which I envisioned as a balance of symmetrical design and large, open grounds to give room for the usually very fast and gravity-bending action of Jedi Knight's gameplay.
